Networking Should Begin At Home

Building An Important Relationship

Today, my almost 14-year-old daughter and I are going to Branson for a mini-vacation over her spring break. A big part of the reason. I have to admit, is because I feel that I have failed her in some ways as her parent.  I have to confess that I have taken her love for granted. Something I learned long ago was that a kid loves his parents unconditionally, no matter how bad the parents were as parents. When a parent is a bad parent, a dichotomy develops where the child both loves and hates the parent. They love their parent because it is in their nature. They hate the parent because it is their experience. I don’t want my daughter to hate me. I have decided it is time to make our relationship my top priority.

My daughter does not live with me. She lives with her Dad. Not because she was taken away from me, but because she loves her school and her friends there and she wanted to stay because of that. If I had taken her out of her environment, she would have resented me and I didn’t want that so, I left her with her Dad because I love her and I want her to continue to love me.Unfortunately I live over 100 miles away and I work weekends so I seldom get to see her. That is why this vacation over her spring break is important to me and to her. We are going to spend time together doing things that both of us enjoy that she is not likely to do with her Dad.

What We Are Going To Do In Branson

We are going to be staying at the Victorian Palace Hotel. I got a great deal on the room.

There’s nothing about a pool at the hotel, but I am okay with that. We decided that a pool was less important than to have money to spend shopping.

Monday night we are going to the Dixie Stampede

This is a show that many friends have raved about so we decided that we wanted to check it out. It offers not just the show, but a huge meal that we couldn’t pass up.

And the Following Morning we will be going to the Titanic Museum

My daughter wants to do this and so do I. It is no secret that I like history. I think she likes it almost as much as I do.

Finally, We Will Be Spending Most of Our Time Together Shopping At Branson Landing

We will be spending most of our time shopping because my daughter loves to shop. She also loves to help me pick out things for myself which is something that I am not as good as she at doing. She wants to get her spring and summer clothes. I just want to look like someone that she is proud to call Mom.

Our Network Should Begin With Those Closest To Us

Networking is relationship building, so what better way to begin networking and relationship building but by getting closer to those who we care about most  By spending time with my daughter and developing a relationship, she will learn that she can trust me with the important things in her life.. Its not the activities, but it is the connection between us that draws us closer and develops that trust. I hope that my daughter learns that even though I am her mother, she can trust me.

  1. This is such an important message. Well done. Seems like common sense but it’s amazing how many people forget this. Thank you for the reminder.
